Remains Clock
Remains Clock was installed on the Queens waterfront during the 2017 Presidential inauguration of Donald J. Trump, and tracked the remaining days and hours of his term. Born from a place of grimness and executed as a testament to hope, Remains Clock was a site-specific collaboration with the artist Matthew Barney, writer and curator Brandon Stosuy and Lighting Designer Kenzan Tsutakawa-Chinn of Studio 1Thousand. The installation site was selected based on its visibility from the United Nations, the embassies in Manhattan, and all Trump properties across the city. Despite the vigor of the confrontation with these politicized sites, the bright red public art display was, in essence, a reminder to New Yorkers that time passes, and with it conditions change.
The clock was erected during a performance at Barney’s studio in January 2017, and turned off during a performance in January 2021.
